PSAL baseball roundup: Manhattan Center knocks off another division leader, takes down Beacon

The Rams keep rolling.

Less than a week after topping national power George Washington, Manhattan Center upended Manhattan A West leader Beacon, 5-4, in PSAL Manhattan Class A crossover action.

Jerry Liang fanned eight in six innings for the win, he also doubled twice and scored three runs, Alex Sanchez had two RBIs and Brendan Paul and Ramon Padilla each scored a run for the Rams (6-3, Manhattan A East), who have won five of six. Beacon is 7-2, a half game ahead of Stuyvesant in Manhattan A West.

George Washington 20, Environmental Studies 4: Henry Rodriguez had three hits, scored three runs and added five RBIs, Marvin Campos had three hits, scored twice and drove in three and Wesley Rodriguez had four RBIs for GW (9-1), which scored 10 runs in the first inning and is tied atop Manhattan A East with Norman Thomas. Environmental Studies is now 1-8 in Manhattan A West.

Cardozo 10, Newtown 0: Connor Doyle scored twice and struck out six in five innings for the win on the mound, Keith Rogers had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run and Nicanor Luna had two hits, two RBIs and scored once for Cardozo (10-0) in Queens A East. Newtown is 7-3 in Queens A West.

Francis Lewis 6, Richmond Hill 1: Jalen Taveras scattered seven hits and struck out five in going the distance for the win, Quincy Tunstall doubled twice, scored once and drove in one and George Cornielle scored twice for Lewis (4-5) in Queens A East. Richmond Hill is 1-8 in Queens A West.

New Utrecht 10, Bushwick Campus 0: Andrew Nathan had two hits, scored four runs and drove in two, Christian Vergara had three hits, scored once and drove in three runs and Chris Hodgens had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice for New Utrecht (7-2) in Brooklyn A West. Bushwick Campus is 2-7 in Brooklyn A East.

Curtis 8, Port Richmond 0: Joseph Leaver had three hits, scored a run and drove in two, Adrian Rodriguez added two hits, scored three runs and drove in another and Daniel Newman struck out 10 in six innings for Curtis (7-4) in Staten Island A. Port Richmond is now 3-10.

McKee/Staten Island Tech 13, Petrides 2: Michael Ahr had three hits, three RBIs, four stolen bases and scored twice, Davis Cruz and Nick Manisero each had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored and Joseph Carlo followed with two RBIs for MSIT (6-5) in Staten Island A. Petrides is 3-10.

William Bryant 8, Forest Hills 0: Adonis Lao doubled twice and drove in three runs, Nick Alvarez had three hits and three RBIs and Tommy Brennan Tsang struck out four in a complete-game effort for Bryant (5-4) in Queens A West. Forest Hills is 0-9 in Queens A East.
