Garret Fieldman learns to appreciate life when an alien invades his life.

Excerpt:

“Good Evening.”
The key fell from Garret Fieldman’s hand to the sidewalk with a soft, metallic, chink.
“Good evening.” Said Garret out of reflex. He glanced up. A man with distinctly raptorial features stared back. Green eyes studied him beneath a wide brimmed field hat. The man’s dark trench coat flapped listlessly in the wind. How had he not heard him approach?
“I am Adam.” The man held out his hand.
“Garret Fieldman.” Garret took the man’s hand wearily.
“I have a proposition for you. I believe you will be inclined to accept.”
Alarms went off inside his head. What is this whack job doing here? It’s nearly midnight on a weekday. No decent person stayed out this late. Not in this neighborhood. Not unless they were looking to get shot. He, himself, wouldn’t be here right now, but he was forced to stay due to a patient with severe respiratory problems.
“What kind of a proposition? For business?”
“You could say that. I suppose what we do could be considered a business.”
“Hey, it’s kind of late and I would really just like to get home. Why don’t we have this conversation tomorrow morning? I open at ten A.M. You can come into my office and we can discuss this then.” Garret made soundless prayers to any god listening. Let me get home safe tonight. Please God.
Adam was staring at Garret. It seemed as though he was deep in thought. Then finally: “So approximately three and one half hours after the sun rises you would like for me to come back to this location, enter this building, and speak with you about the matter I wish to discuss presently?”
“Yes…”
“I shall see you then.” Adam turned and strode away smoothly. Garret started for his car parked a short distance down the street.
“Don’t forget your key.” A voice behind Garret said. He turned and saw Adam, still facing away from him, stopped at the end of the street.
“What?”
“Your key. You dropped it. Remember? Do not forget to repossess it before you leave. Lest some other human swine come and rob your establishment.” Adam continued walking.
“Thank you.” Garret said meekly. He walked back and retrieved his dropped key. Garret was now thoroughly confused, and a little scared. “Least there will be other people around tomorrow.” He said, exhaling a deep breath.
