New American populism is a postmodern democratic movement. It is an anti-rationalist reformation of the conservative movement. The authors believe that people who think of themselves as conservatives today are actually neopopulists who have rejected any traditional Burkeian or expert approach to their conservatism; in other words they have rejected, quite rightly, rule-by-objective-truth. Liberalism and conservatism (see libertarianism) have otherwise both become branches on the same rationalist tree. This is why the conservative movement has failed. We must now uproot the entire rationalist tree and burn it to regain our liberty.
