Statewide weather data now at your fingertips, thanks to UAH climatologist

HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Is it really that hot? Or that cold? Or is it really raining that much? Or not enough?

You now have an online destination to help answer those questions.

Alabama Climate Report went live online Monday, providing statewide data on temperature ranges and precipitation measurements.

It's the brainchild of John Christy, a climatologist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the state's official climatologist.

The report, which Christy said will be more timely as it develops, can be found at nsstc.uah.edu/alclimatereport.

"What is unique about this is it is the entire state of Alabama," Christy said. "Our (National Weather Service) offices do a great job but they do it for their region. No one does it for the state.

"Doing it for the whole state, you can see wetness and dryness and where it was hot and how that might impact anywhere in the state."
