On October 1, 2008 I was coming home from the Emergency room with my husband and two sons, when my cell phone rang. It was a female voice asking if I would "Support Senator Obama" in the election. I admit I was a bit snippy. I was paying for an unsolicited call from the "Obama Volunteers of Texarkana." "No, I won't support him. Your guy is a socialist and he voted five times in the state Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets; so I won't be voting for him and you should think better of it."

Less than twenty-four hours later there was a knock at my door and when I opened it I was greeted by two Secret Service Agents. I could not believe that calling a candidate a socialist merited this and I soon found out that it didn't. The woman who called had reported that I said, "I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor."

This incident launched Jessica Hughes to start The Founders Alliance, a non-profit and non-partisan grassroots movement dedicated to reinstating the Constitution as the supreme law of the land. If government is created to protect the life, Liberty and property of the People through a consolidation of legitimate force, then any time the government assaults the life, Liberty or property of those people, it has not only failed, but acted against it own justification for being. Without the vigilance of the masses; without the healthy distrust of government that our Founders held indispensable to a people who wished to remain free, the power of the ruling class will inevitably grow until it destroys the very things it was created to protect. This is not a glitch in our system. The Constitution was designed to allow for the utmost restraint of government power. The problem is not in the structure, but in the stewards. America's ideals are exceptional, but her people are typical. We are no different than the Germans, Russians or Italians who saw their freedoms smashed by the fists of tyrants when their desire for largesse outpaced their dedication to Liberty.
